SPIC MACAY : An inward transformational journey; A Cultural Immersion – Convention 2017

I am very fortunate to undertake the soulful inward journeys laced with the culture pilgrimage of SPIC MACAY every year, all through. For every ambassador of Indian and world culture it has been a very enriching one as always. Here I captured the essence of the pilgrimage 2017, SPIC MACAY international convention 2017 held at IIT Delhi recently. You can check the visual captures, in still form, at my FLICKR stream

The Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi, inaugurating the International convention 2017, in his inimitable style of eloquence, pays tribute to the movement of SPIC MACAY and also to the founder of the movement, Dr. Kiran Seth. Beseeches the youth to embrace the spirit and purpose of the movement.

The following short video documentary, in five parts, captures the essence of the conventions, the daily schedule followed, the spirit of volunteerism, the passionate facilitation by gurus who have dedicated their lives for the cause of artforms, the earnest desire of every participant to assimilate, imbibe and live the spirit as well as the art forms, as much as they can.

The week long convention is an endeavour to instill the discipline and have a sublime control of ones own life and expose every participant to the mysticism of arts and culture.

The days start at 4am with YOGA, then shramdan to keep our environment clean and tidy, then after a break of an hour for morning ablutions, commences with the intensives. Every participant will undergo an intensive to gain deeper understanding of an art form works with a Guru for seven days, four hours a day. The afternoons after the lunch is devoted the exposing every participant to a variety of genre like not limited to music and dance but also theatre, choir music, folk music and dance, puppetry etc. The evenings are devoted to classical music and dance performances.
Enjoy watching!

The last day is all about sharing the learning during the week gone by, in every art form. .Here are a few of the showcasing I have been able to capture at a couple of venues. I apologize for not being able to cover all the five centres of performances.

Come participate and contribute to the propagation of art forms and the spread of the spirit of brotherhood and composite culture. UNITY in Diversity.

Sreeni’s SPANDAN 2014 culminates with a bang at IHC – Media Coverage!

SPANDAN 2014, a brainchild of R. Sreenivasan and Indira Ganesh, was painstakingly and lovingly compiled. It is all about celebrating the ‘Journey of INFINITY’ as Sreeni calls it – discovering the infinite potential within. With love towards performing arts and fine arts, Sreeni intends to inspire every youth to push oneself in their areas of passion and excel in life.

While the Dance Photography Exhibition with over 30+ photographers celebrated that ‘Journey of Infinity’ of the dancers who have made a difference, the Dance Evening celebrated the young and not so young dancers who are on their way to establish themselves in the world of dance.

It gave Sreeni, immense pleasure to welcome each viewer and every youth to the second edition of SPANDAN – a celebration of human spirit in the form of dance, generously supported by INDIA HABITAT CENTRE (IHC) and CL EDUCATE, earlier known as Career Launcher. It was heartening indeed to interact with scores of youth, elders and intellectuals apart from dancers and dance lovers during the SPANDAN Photo exhibition and the dance evening.

Here are a few coverages of SPANDAN in the media…. if you want to read the original article in the respective English publication, kindly click on the article here.

Geometry – Inspired and instigated by nature : on my photoblog SREENIViews

Geometry is integral to Nature. Nature, in its myriad forms, has helped us understand and, evolve geometric patterns and constructs.

We, human beings, have adopted these constructs in a variety of ways –

a. Designing monuments and buildings,

b. Embellishing the mega-structures

c. The attires we sport

d. Accessorizing the looks of a human beings

d. To visual presentation of the food!

e. The dance forms mimic the natures patterns

The list is endless. Here, I try to give a form to the conceptual thought that has been lingering….

I, me, my, mine …. belonging and possessing : on SREENIViews

My and Mine are so powerful expressions of self – emotional bonding, belonging and possessing …. For me, the dimensions are endless as human being is all about this powerful emotion! Every moment, every thought, every action is more or less motivated by this emotion. I am compelled to explore these endless dimensions, that cover a full life cycle…

On SREENIViews photoblog – Being abreast with the world!…

Human being has always been curious. Curious about knowing what is happening around the world. Who is behind this story? What could the response now be? Why is it behaving so? why does it look so? what is working as a catalyst? How will the world respond? The questions on who, what, where, when, why and how of every happening are interesting. We want to be aware, analyze with whatever data we have, create our own perceptions and take those decisions….

The messages went across the world using birds – mostly pigeons. Then came the printing press and slowly newspapers came into being. Then television stepped into world to beam films that made knowing the world more interesting and visually appealing. Then came along other forms of media like tapes, CDs, DVDs that made sharing easy. As the world moved into twenty first century, world wide web reached out everything to our desks. The world is at our finger tips. Anytime anywhere is the choice we all have. Now we can peep into any country, city or a colony from the sky, drive through a road looking all around sitting at our desk, even appreciate the art pieces in a museum! The future seems to be even more exciting with possibilities….

For most of us, the early morning cup of coffee with a newspaper in hand is a bliss! Each one eagerly awaits for the newspaper boy to through it every morning and scurry to get it. It is no different in a city, small towns or villages. Every curious human being quenches his thirst of catching up with the world, through the newspapers…..

On my Photoblog – “Everyone has a story….” : A Visual Poetry!

Every human being is excited about sharing a story gathered or an episode that he or she has been part of.

The journey of humankind in itself is a fascinating one and what would it be like to have a story from each of the six billion :With such a diversity –  roots of origin, culture, language – and the folklore that gets passed on, apart from the events each one is part of! What a documentation it will be.

All those places that I have been part of since childhood, have changed dramatically over the last couple of decades. The visual captures over years of the same place does not have any trace of the past. With this oral story telling tradition, a lot of emotions gets retained in the human folklore.
