What are we contributing towards? can we spare a thought?

Watch this short film, a trailer…..

Do you feel the impact of our arbitrary acts of indifference?…. where is our consumerism leading to?

Evert time I board a train from New Delhi station, and as it crosses the cities and villages, I am shocked at the amount of plastic trash that lies all along the tracks. I find children playing in those heaps, women washing clothes or utensils, mostly using the stagnated water around their homes where this trash is floating! My heart bleeds.

How did this trash accumulate? Who is responsible? Do we have conscience in what we buy, how we buy, how we spend, how we dispose? I keep wondering who will clean it and when?

This film shows me how the impact is felt in those unimaginable corners of the world.

Let us pledge to think and act… love.

Photostory : Magic of the Golder Hour – India Unravelled, on my photoblog SREENIVIEWS

On my regular travels the morning Golden Hour is the time when I am usually on my walks with my camera. Since it is the only time I get for myself, these introspective perambulations have not only shaped my strategies for life, but also yielded me a great number of opportunities to capture the busy life at the tranquil hour.

Here are a sampler of my captures. I just picked one or two from each of the locations to showcase the length and breadth of India and its rich ritual practices and flurry of activities that are connected to the auspices and precious Golden Hour!

I start with the

– Spiritual Varanasi, then go to
– Khajuraho to its east, to celebrate the human spirit
– head to far east Kaziranga wild life sanctuary,
– then come down to Kolkata,
– and to Puri on the eastern coast of India,
– down to Pondicherry,
– then head to Silent Valley in Kerala.
– traversing towards northern direction to Mangalore,
– then to frolicking Goa,
– Financial hub of Mumbai
– then into the desert land of Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Ajmer and
– The national capital of India, Delhi
– finally heading to the crown of India – Kashmir and Ladakh.

Happy browsing… Would love to see your comments..

Emerald Trail – A home away from home : on my Travelogue – Sreeni on Road

It was a wonderful trip of friends and their families who have known one another for the last 18 years.

And the destination was Emerald Trail, created by another set of friends Sumit Datta and Leena Lele at Bhimtal!

Here, I tried to capture Emerald Trail in all its essence, along with its immediate contextual environment – socio-cultural-physical-natural milieu.

A beautiful creation through sweat and toil. It is home away from home, in the rustic, pristine environment to recharge and relaunch oneself.

Apart from the peaceful environs that rejuvenates you and can give you time to think and initiate yourself in many a creative pursuit, you can

– Walks into the woods,
– go on trekks if you are adventurous
– taking off the skyway with parasailing if you are adrenaline-umped
– drenching yourself in nearby water streams
– go boating in so many lakes nearby
– if you love nature, then good-friend Peter’s butterfly research centre is a great place to invest for half a day

Geometry – Inspired and instigated by nature : on my photoblog SREENIViews

Geometry is integral to Nature. Nature, in its myriad forms, has helped us understand and, evolve geometric patterns and constructs.

We, human beings, have adopted these constructs in a variety of ways –

a. Designing monuments and buildings,

b. Embellishing the mega-structures

c. The attires we sport

d. Accessorizing the looks of a human beings

d. To visual presentation of the food!

e. The dance forms mimic the natures patterns

The list is endless. Here, I try to give a form to the conceptual thought that has been lingering….

Colors of Nature

the flowery patterns of the roof interiors

Taj, Vrindavan and Fatehpur Sikri

WATER – THE LIFELINE….. photo-essay on my blog Sreeniviews

Water breathes life ....
Water breathes life ….

Water is essential for all dimensions of life. Over the past few decades, use of water has increased, and in many places water availability is falling to crisis levels. More than eighty countries, with forty percent of the world’s population, are already facing water shortages, while by year 2020 the world’s population will double. The costs of water infrastructure have risen dramatically. The quality of water in rivers and underground has deteriorated, due to pollution by waste and contaminants from cities, industry and agriculture. Ecosystems are being destroyed, sometimes permanently. Over one billion people lack safe water, and three billion lack sanitation; eighty per cent of infectious diseases are waterborne, killing millions of children each year.

Happy WORLD EARTH DAY!

“”Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.” ~ An Indian proverb

Care for nature and nurture. It is our responsibility to pass on a better earth for the generations to come.

Earth Day is a launch pad for course-changing, positive environmental action. Since 1970, Earth Day has activated individuals and organizations annually to strengthen the collective fight against man’s exploitative relationship with the planet. The Earth Day campaign aims to combat climate change by driving substantive behavioral change and channel quantifiable action on behalf of the environment.
