IWSB – First convocation – Class of 2010

IWSB and Career Launcher will remember March 27, 2010 for years to come. It was a first in many ways for CL – FIRST graduating class in any of the main stream education endeavours, opening of the FIRST ever higher education campus and CL’s own infrastructure, passing out of the FIRST batch of ‘entrepreneurial leaders’ from IWSB. It will take some time to sink, for most of us, as each one of the CLite will visit the campus as the days pass by.

It was indeed a great day for the graduating class of 2010. Each one has been waiting for this day for long. Parents and family members were there to see their wards don the robes and attend their convocation ceremony.

The occasion was graced by eminent industrialist Mr. Sunil Munjal of the HERO group as the chief guest, while our guru of gurus Prof Ishwar Dayal made it to the event even while indisposed, to bless the young entrepreneurial leaders who were graduating.

The preparation began over a couple of months ago with Dr Deepak Dogra getting ready the Festschrift of Prof Ishwar Dayal to be released on the occasion. A month ago Sunil Munjal kindly consented to be the chief guest on the occasion. Deepak had his hands full for the last three weeks and he refused to be part of any of the ‘selection panels’ of the admission process!! All ended on this great day with everything falling in place.

The day began with the rehearsals at 11am marshaled by Deepak. By 4pm everyone was running around to get into their robes or beautiful/handsome dresses and donning the assigned roles and taking their designated positions. As Sunil Munjal arrives and has interaction with a select few, the faculty and students assembled at the portico to get ready for the photo op with the BOG and the chief guest, Sunil.

The ceremonial procession headed by the Chief guest Munjal and Satya, chairperson, BOG IWSB moved towards the arena that already had parents and guests waiting. As the passing out students occupied their designated seats, the evening began with Saraswati vandana by Tanushree of PG11, followed by Shom felicitating the dignitaries and Satya declaring the convocation open. The graduating students were decorated with degrees by Satya and Prof Ishwar Dayal while Sunil awarded the medallions to exceptional performers, as they trooped in one by one to the calls given by the PGP Chairperson Raj Kishan.

As Shom shared about path breaking work being done at IWSB, Prof Ishwar Dayal exhorted the students to be principled and socially aware when they head to the real world, Sunil Munjal highlighted the need for the graduating class to be job creators than just job seekers. The ceremonial evening came to an end with Satya addressing the gathering and Gautam concluding with vote of thanks.

Graduating students started their evening merriment by throwing up their ‘topis’ up in the air the moment the evening was declared close. The merriment continued into late evening….
